Love songs

It is probably not a coincidence that the majority of songs that have been composed are about love. These are not only romantic songs, but songs of parental love and love of country. What is about love that compels composers to put music to it? The reverse also holds. What is it about music that compels the composer to speak of love within it? Both are highly emotionally charged. Think of the emotions associated with love and what you feel when you listen to a piece of music. There is joy, passion, pain in the loss of love, hope, and longing. These emotions have been with us for as long as we have inhabited the earth. This music is independent of the circumstances of life. It remains free of the current economic and political situations.
