On overload

Date:
April 20, 2021

I find that there are times when my interest and enthusiasm for projects I am working on get the best of me. I know when this is occurring based on my mood and attitude. Simple things begin to annoy me which I probably wouldn't have even noticed in the past. Perhaps it is an unexpected phone call, an email, or a task that needs to be taken care of at home. The difference in my life today is that I am immediately aware of this change in me. That sense of peace and serenity have been replaced by irritability and lack of kindness to both myself and others. When this happens, I know I need to find a quiet space and center myself. What is it that I am allowing to take over my well-being? Often it is because I have taken on to much to reasonably accomplish in one day. The cause may be different for each of us, but the solution is always the same. Ask yourself, "How important is this?" and "Who is imposing pressure on me to get this done?" Focus your attention on what actually needs to be done and remind yourself that you are in charge of your day. Then remember to breathe and relax. And don't forget to celebrate completing the action you identified as needing your attention. What are you doing to keep it simple and to avoid overload today?
