A different twist

Two weekends ago I attended a local performance of The Sound of Music. Then last weekend I watched the movie with my neighbors. It was hard to believe that the movie was filmed almost 60 years ago. While I was in Salzburg in 1978 I learned more about the family that served as the basis for the story. Since then I have watched documentaries on the topic. What struck me was the different twists on the story line. About the only thing they had in common was the family, Salzburg, and the fact that they left Austria. This left me wondering about how we interpret events in our lives. The common elements were interpreted by the storytellers based on what mattered to them. How often do we do the same? We look back on our experiences through such a lens coloring them with our beliefs, biases, and emotions. Thus we create our own version of the story that allows us to make sense of a situation. When we share our story with others who may also have been present, we may find that their version has a different twist to it. So which version is the truth? Most likely the truth lies somewhere in the combinations of versions. What matters is how you apply your version for good. What story have you created that may have a different twist for someone else?
