A treat for the senses

Date:
October 21, 2018

Our senses are designed to provide us with information about our surroundings. While we most often think about the five senses, we possess even more such as proprioception. Our senses are an integral part of our survival system. Most often they are used in combination to be most effective. Try to discriminate the taste of an apple and a potato while closing off your nostrils, But not only are our senses meant for survival, they are meant to delight. When we know that we are safe from danger, our senses provide a source of pleasure that lights up a different part of our brain. How often do you hear people talk about their favorite flavor of ice cream or what the aroma of a freshly brewed pot of coffee does for them? Just the thought of it can start the brain firing in the pleasure center. How have you been treating your senses lately? When was the last time you spent twenty minutes basking in your senses? What keeps you from doing that? If this is not a regular practice for you, set aside just five minutes to begin a new habit. You will begin to notice its effects almost immediately. How will you treat your sense today?
