Common courtesy
When you think of being courteous what comes to mind? Do you think of holding the door open for someone, sending a thank you note, or returning a telephone call? These are acts that express respect and consideration for others. While you may expect that others will express courtesy to you, that may or may not occur. When it does not, choose this as a time to focus on practicing more courteous acts. This is an example of what you read on bumper stickers that states, "Practice random acts of kindness." Do this not only with people you know, but also with strangers. It takes little effort and goes a long way. Imagine each person you do this with as paying it forward. Think of how many lives you would touch in a single day through this practice. If each of us did this, it truly would become "common" meaning occurring on a regular basis. Declare today to be "Courtesy Day" and commit to being its greatest supporter. What common courtesy will you begin with today?
