Lost in the moment

On a perfect sun-drenched afternoon in Oregon, I had an opportunity to canoe down the Sun River. Those in our group had just met the night before and this was our first activity over the weekend. It wasn't long before the quietude was broken by the laughter of those in the party as we began to know each other better. What I observed was that each person present had allowed the childlike part of them to emerge and relish the moment. We pointed out the wildlife along the shores of the river, waved at the bicyclists traveling along the adjoining trails, and bantered back and forth from our canoes. Since we were primarily at the event to share our interest in art, it was no surprise that we were caught up in the beauty of our surroundings. Time and space seemed to be suspended as we paddled and floated our way down the six-mile stretch of water. I was once more reminded of my interconnection to nature and my fellow man. We are all one on this journey. As the day continued, I noticed that the feelings I had accompanied me and I told myself how much I love the life I have created. When was the last time you were lost in the moment?
