Our expanding self

There is a saying that states, "We are never given more than we can handle." Somehow we are provided with the strength we need to move through any challenge in life. I recall when my parents died a number of years ago that I was not able to make plane reservations in time to be with either of them when they passed. My comment was that I guess that being with them would have been more than I could handle. I arrived several days after their deaths and was there to support my family. That was something I knew I could handle. This applies to all aspects of our lives. I tell people that, not only does it refer to dealing with our losses, it also the amount of success we are given. We are also never given any more success than we can handle. Imagine yourself as a container that is structured only to hold a specific amount of whatever it is sent. Until you understand more of what you are capable of receiving in life, the container doesn't change in size. Once we adjust our thinking about what we are here to experience, the container expands automatically to hold it. All that is required is an openness to something greater than what exists today. It is the nature of the universe to expand and so it is with us. What have you been unable to deal with in the past that you could handle today?
