Siblings
On a biological level siblings are connected by the genetic information provided by one or more parent. Beyond that the nature of their relationships ranges from the closest of friends to little or no contact. Being the second of four siblings, I have an older brother and a younger sister and brother. Throughout our six decades together we have experienced marriages, divorces, the arrival of children and grandchildren, the passing of both parents, and most recently the death of a spouse. In spite of the fact that we were raised in the shadow of alcohol, I have seen us develop a sense of closeness as we mature. We may not communicate on a regular basis, but we know that we are there for one another. Our conversations always end with the same three words, "I love you." In the end this is all that really matters. Not every family can claim this experience, and I am truly grateful that this is how having siblings has been for me. What are you grateful for in your relationship with your siblings?
