The symphony of life
A symphony orchestra is composed of four sections each containing its own representative instruments. When the string section is missing, the group is now referred to as a band. The sound it produces has a completely different quality. Each section adds to the richness of the piece they are performing. Imagine hearing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony without any violins. The same is true of our presence on the planet. There is the human element consisting of the close to 7 billion people living here. Each of them contributes to an intricate web of interactions that connect each of us even if it is only at a remote level. To this symphony we add all animal life. Each animal serves a specific function and is an integral part of the piece. The other section in our symphony is the plant life that provides the oxygen we breathe. Finally we add the nonliving segment of our symphony: the minerals, water, and air we breathe. Without them there would be no symphony. At this very moment the planet is resonating with the symphony of life. Honor each section within it. What are you doing to ensure that you are in tune with all the other members of the symphony today?
