What can I learn from this?

Last April I was introduced to a wonderful family in the area who hadn't been in touch in over thirty years. At the reunion several generations spent time reconnecting over food and lively conversation. The organizer of the event was a cousin who had not spared any detail in making the event so memorable even though she was experiencing some challenging health issues. She was as much a part of the time we had together as anyone else present. Today I learned that her life journey is coming to an end soon. In six short months, what had started as a time filled with joy and hope for future events together became filled with sadness over her impending death. Since she is only in her 50s, I wondered why this was happening to her. What I come to realize is that, it isn't as important as to how long we are here on this planet, as it is to leave our footprints on it. She has certainly left her footprints on our hearts and will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and caring. It causes me to think about my life and what I am leaving to those continuing after me. It also causes me to evaluate my priorities and release some of the less important ones. How do you want to be remembered when you are no longer here on this earth?
