Wishing on a star
As children we would wait until the time between dusk and dark when the first stars began to appear. They hadn't really gone anywhere. Their light was masked by that of our sun. And so, as evening approached, we would look into the sky and make a wish on the first star that caught our eye. For as many times as I performed this ritual, I can't recall what any of those wishes were. Most likely they had to do with wishing for a pony as most children do. By the way, even though I was raised in the city, I did have a pony on my grandparents' farm. Anything is possible. I haven't wished on a star in years. Since stars are composed of the material that can generate all the known elements, it might not be a bad idea. I think that today my wishes would more likely take the form of intentions. I could look up at the sky and share what my intention for the next 24 hours would be. I could say, "I intend to practice at least three acts of kindness towards others in the next 24 hours. I'll see you tomorrow night and report in on how I did." Think of what a difference it would make in your life and that of those around you. I'm not sure how much difference having the pony made in my life. We only had it for a summer and then my grandparents had to sell it because it wasn't getting the exercise it needed. Setting an intention on a star makes so much more sense. What intention would you set on the first star you see tonight?
