A sense of pride
Pride comes in a variety of forms. There is the pride that one feels as part of an organization or team. You identify with the qualities of that group. Those qualities may be constructive or destructive. You may be part of a group that does philanthropic work or one that is dedicated to the oppression of others. Then there is the pride that one feels about the work that you accomplish. You have achieved a goal that you set. Perhaps someone has given you public recognition for your accomplishment. Or you have pride in a specific role you play such being as a parent. You may possess an internal sense of pride in which you feel good about yourself as a person. We tend to refer to this as self-esteem. When it become ego driven it may transform into arrogance. As you can see, for the most part pride is dependent on external sources. It is what comes from within that is most important. Knowing who we are and sharing our gifts has its roots in humility. It requires no outside influences or affiliations to be a source of pride. Which do you value and practice more - pride or humility?
