Everybody is somebody
Our Declaration of Independence states that "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights." When we consider what these rights are: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, they have not changed much over time. One of the key words in this statement is "all" men. Every person on this planet deserves to pursue happiness. They also have the right to be treated in a manner of respect. Each person we come in contact with today is worthy of our best. This includes how we treat ourselves. Imagine what our world would be like if we each adopted this outlook on life. Class systems and discrimination would disappear. Each person would be valued for what they have to offer based on their strengths and not on deficits or limitations. It may be what some think to be an unrealistic Utopia, but it was in the consciousness of our Founding Fathers over 200 years ago and manifested as the country we live in today. We are still far from what they had envisioned and yet we draw closer to that dream every time we treat with dignity those we meet. What are you doing to acknowledge the somebodys in your life today?
