I didn't expect that

How many times have you had a clear expectation for an outcome, only for it not to materialize as anticipated? The love of your life ended the relationship without warning. You invested in a company that held great potential, only for it to go under a few months later. The financing on your dream home fell through at the last minute.

You most likely felt disappointment, anger, and hurt with each of these situations. Yet, gradually—and hopefully—you moved beyond them. It was helpful to adopt the belief that something better awaited you on the other side. If you used these situations as learning opportunities, the "something better" that appeared was often the case.

Nothing happens by accident. Once you open yourself up to this belief, you will see the truth in it. We may not always get what we expect, but we will get what we need in the moment. Think back to instances in which that has occurred in your life. How did what you didn’t expect exceed your expectations?
