If I'd only known
Have you ever held a belief around an event and then found out later that it occurred in a totally different manner? This often happens during our childhood, but it can also happen in adulthood. I recall having a belief around a story my mother told me about being pregnant with me the night before my delivery. I learned later from her that the details were only slightly similar to what I thought all those years. Now I had to reconstruct my story to match the new details. This is true of so many times in our lives. We take in information from a variety of sources and create our story. Sometimes that story is used to justify our current emotional pain that we may carry for years. Then new information emerges that transforms what we believe to have been the truth. What price have we paid for holding on to that erroneous belief? What opportunities did we pass up to retain our investment in the past? Who have we harmed in remaining steadfast to what we knew? Our stories are just that. They are beliefs we hold onto tightly as a way of showing to the world who we are and what we stand for. How confident are you that your story is 100% accurate? What would your life look like today if you had new information about an old event?
