Interconnection

Have you ever heard someone say, "Who do I know who knows anyone of importance?" That importance is defined by the person asking the question. It can be related to someone who is famous, influential, knowledgeable, or financially successful. A number of months ago I wrote about the six degrees of separation, a belief that we are only six contacts away from anyone else on the planet. I stated that I was only four degrees from the President and two degrees from Oprah Winfrey. After dinner on Saturday I had to update my degrees of separation from the Queen of England and the members of the royal family when I dined with a former butler to the royal family. We never know who we are going to meet and under what circumstances. The relationship came up as part of a normal dinner conversation. I am just as easily connected to a child who is starving in a third world country. We are all on the spaceship Earth together and what affects one person has an effect on every other person. It is important to acknowledge this when we show up each morning. Who will I meet today and how might I profoundly affect their life? What strikes you most about your interconnection?
