Keeping your balance
No matter how hard we try, we still haven't found a way to squeeze more time into the 24 hours we are given each day. Consequently people choose to do more of one thing to make sure they fit it in to that time period. One area in which people tend to do this is in their work. They arrive early and stay late to focus on what they believe needs to be accomplished by them alone. They neglect their health, their family, and leisure activities in favor of their work. Work/life balance does not exist for them. While it is important to do your best while you are working, ask yourself if there is a high price you are paying at the workplace for ignoring the other aspects of your life. I worked with a person who worked excessively and talked about how his life would be after he retired. A year before that was to happen he developed a mysterious set of symptoms and did not live to enjoy the retirement years he hoped for. Look at your day and examine how you are spending it. Are you setting aside time for family, exercise, fun, and learning? Imagine trying to drive on a wheel that is out of balance. You won't travel very far without a significant problem developing.
