Lessons learned

Date:

A friend called me about her financial dilemma and the projected consequences it would have for her. As she spoke I could hear her worry about what this could mean in the days to come. During the course of the conversation she questioned what the lesson was that she was meant to be learning. While it was tempting to offer possible answers, I realized that they were her lessons to be revealed when she was ready to hear them. All I could do was to offer my support through listening. I reminded her that it was important to live in the moment and not project to the days ahead. That didn't mean that she shouldn't plan and take the necessary action, but that the outcome could be very different from what she thought it would be. I subsequently thought about my own lessons in life. How many times did I have to repeat a behavior before I was open to the message of change? Are there still things that I do that are part of the future lessons to be learned? What have you learned and are still learning from the lessons that life has presented you?
