Standing in your shoes
I recently had an opportunity to look at a situation from someone else's point of view. I had been struggling with the choices he was making. I realized that I was judging the behaviors from my belief system. When I decided that this was not going to benefit either one of us, I released my part of it. In doing so I suddenly had a completely different outlook on the other person's life. I could see what was positive in it rather than only pointing out the negative. I could also see how we were probably more alike than different in our view of the world. We were just acting on those views in a different manner. Who was to say that his behaviors were wrong and mine were right? His path is not mine to walk. When I took time to stand in his shoes I could feel a connection that had not been present in the past. I no longer sat in judgment and felt a sense of freedom in this. Is there someone in your life that you are struggling with today and what would you learn from standing in their shoes?
