The all powerful "They"

You often hear people talking about "They." "They" say that the economy is in a downturn and no one is being hired. "They" warn you that a certain kind of food is not good for you. "They" say that a certain group of people should be feared and persecuted. We take whatever "they" say and adopt it as a belief that influences the way we live our lives. Thinking this way is what creates race consciousness that determines the way people make choices. I always ask people to name specifically who "they" are. Most of the time there is no one on the list. We are each free to make our own choices that affect the quality of the life we lead. When the messages that "they" send stir up feelings of fear or anger, it is important to test their validity. When none exists we can disenpower the "theys" of the world and act accordingly.
