Time to let go
During a conversation with someone I recently met, I shared my experiences related to events involving my family. In the course of our talk I realized that all these experiences related to graduations. My stories recounted how each of the days had fallen short of my expectations based on what I hoped my family would do to support that event. I allowed to overshadow what was meant to be a celebration of a milestone in my life with my focusing on what was missing. I realize now that this was reinforcing a victim mentality. As I told my tale of woe for the upteenth time, I became aware of how old and worn out the stories had become. The last graduation that would have included my parents was almost thirty years ago. Yet I was telling it as if it was a week ago. How much longer did I want to hold on to the negative energy surrounding these events? Time to let go. With the release of these old thought patterns I am open to seeing these events in a new way. No longer do I have to have others participate as I see fit for me to celebrate the passage of such milestones. I am free to recall how those graduations were the culmination of the efforts I had put into my education. Letting go can be applied to any aspect of your life that is still bringing up negative memories. What old story are you ready to let go of today because it no longer serves you?
