Your happy place
Have you ever had someone tell you to go to your happy place? That usually happens for me when I visit my doctor and they are about to take my blood pressure. There is something called "the white coat syndrome" which means that seeing someone dressed in a white coat will result in an elevated blood pressure. By going to a place of peace and serenity within, your blood pressure can register lower. Is the happy place a reality? We know that we can create the circumstances around any situation in our lives. We give a directive and the mind responds. It doesn't differentiate between what is supposedly real and what is imagined. We know this from thinking about something that elicits fear such as standing at the edge of the roof of a 40 story building. That imagined event will bring about the same physical reactions as if we were actually standing there. if we know this to be the case, we can create a scenario that elicits feelings of joy and happiness. Imagine what heavy doses of that will do to our physical and mental systems. We will be flooded with endorphins, serotonin, and oxytocin which can elevate our mood and overall sense of well-being. This will have long term effects on our health. Make sure you take time each day to visit your happy place and note how it affects you. When was the last time you visited your happy place and how did you feel after your visit?
