Filled with delight

One emotion that I don't hear much talked about is delight. It is a feeling of great satisfaction, pleasure, and gratification. When I hear of delight, I first think of children and how they respond to this time of the year. When you consider that the base of this word is "light," it makes sense since I see their faces lighting up with magic and joy. Every once in awhile I see the same happening for the adults around me. It may come from the memories that are stirred from their own childhoods. I used to hear the word used much more frequently when I was younger. I don't hear too many people say, "I was delighted to meet you," at the end of an introduction. Perhaps we should resurrect its use by being in touch with what underlies the statement. Our delight comes from our connectedness to an event. Take time today to look at those connections in your life, whether they be with people, your job, or a hobby. Think back to a time when you were filled with delight and attempt to reconnect with its source. What brings you delight?
