Getting back to normal

Date:
December 3, 2024

We have a need for stability and predictability in our lives. When something comes along to disrupt those needs, we feel out of balance. Imagine a mobile hanging motionless above you. You strike it with your hand and the pieces are flung in all directions. Eventually it returns to its original position as if nothing had changed. Many of us hope that this will be true after the pandemic passes. This most likely will be the exception to our image of the mobile. We do not know what awaits us on the other side of this. The way we live our daily lives may be transformed forever. We have choices in the way we approach the future. We can focus on the worst case scenario based on the fears we create around the current situation. We can choose to act as if nothing in life has changed and that the events are exaggerated. Or we can imagine a best case scenario that includes a life based on acceptance and hope. Think of which choice best serves you and your well being. When we are tempted to fall back into fear and powerlessness based on some new piece of information, ask yourself where you have power and exercise it. What do you want the new normal to look like for you?
