Take care of yourself
When we are little we rely on others to take care of us. They provide for our physical needs as well as nurture our emotional needs. As we mature we take responsibility for meeting our own needs. We provide food, clothing, and shelter for ourselves. We learn to interact socially and express our emotions in ways that are healthy. This requires that we be in touch with what our needs are and take care of them accordingly. We understand that, while it is important to be aware of those around us, ultimately we need to focus on how to care for our own needs. Since I fly often, one of the instructions as we prepare to take off is related to the use of oxygen masks. We are told to place the mask on ourselves first and then assist children traveling with us. We won't be of much use to them if we are unable to breathe ourselves. When faced with a situation that requires us to consider our circumstances, identify what you need and then act with those needs in mind. What needs do you have today and what are you doing to take care of them?
