Small successes

Date:
November 7, 2024

It seems obvious that we take the time to celebrate major accomplishments such as reaching retirement, becoming married, or accepting a job promotion. We consider these to be milestones in our lives and we acknowledge them as such. We forget about the small successes that are just as important to celebrate. They may include completing a phase of a project at work, having the courage to go on a first date after a divorce, or losing five pounds. For many of us we need to visit even more basic levels of success to affirm our self worth. It may be as simple as making the bed in the morning, saying "no" to the doughnuts at work, or picking up a brochure for a vacation destination. These are the steps that deserve our attention, especially if it has been a challenge to take action on them. Your celebration doesn't have to be a public declaration with bells and whistles. It can be a moment of silent gratitude or sharing your success with a trusted friend for a job well done. Remember that all big successes began with that first step. What small success will you be celebrating today?
